Walla Walla Airport WineTrail

During World War II, the regional airport near Walla Walla housed more than 10,000 military personnel. After the war, most of these properties sat idle, and the Port of Walla Walla had a major problem deciding what to do with all the buildings left behind, including barracks, mess halls, and fire stations. The answer was a low-cost solution, allowing start-up businesses to rent space in the buildings. Today, more than a dozen wineries make and sell wine at the Walla Walla Regional Airport and Industrial Park, also referred to as the “wine incubator” complex, and more are on the way. You can easily spend a weekend trekking the Airport WineTrail, and unless you bring a bike or a good pair of hiking boots, plan to use your car to get from one tasting room to the next.
