Wineglass Cellars
linger v.– to be slow in leaving, especially out of reluctance; tarry. See ‘stay.’
Bring your picnic; you might be here awhile. Your reason for lingering will surely be David Lowe’s superlative wines. (You might also want to bring your bicycle. We’ll explain why in a bit.) Many visitors to Zillah get no farther than Wineglass Cellars. Why? This description of its 2005 “In the Buff” chardonnay may provide a clue: “In the buff, as you might suppose, means no oak, no malolactic. It is nonetheless quite stacked with flavor, thick currents of pear, peach and other stone fruits, and plenty of natural acid to keep it lively in the mouth. This is the sort of honest, no-nonsense wine that chardonnay rarely can be—more like a sturdy red in the way it coats the tongue and lingers.” Paul Gregutt, Seattle Times Wine Advisor, August 2, 2006.
The chardonnay offers a wonderful prelude to Wineglass Cellars’ big, full-bodied reds. Get ready for sangiovese, merlot, “Capizimo” (a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, sangiovese, and malbec), cabernet sauvignon, reserve merlot, and “Elerding Vineyard” cabernet sauvignon. We hope that owners David and Linda Lowe are there when you experience their array of reds. The Lowes are the nicest, most unassuming people you will meet in Yakima wine country. Here’s your chance to discover where they acquire their grapes, why they relocated from Seattle, and what future releases are in store. Speaking of Seattle, Wineglass Cellars is a featured winery at The Tasting Room, located in Post Alley, at Pike Place Market. We know. We’ve made several emergency stops at The Tasting Room for a glass of Wineglass Cellars’ “Capizimo.” (OK, this WineTrail enthusiast admits that “Capizimo” is my personal favorite.)
Regarding that bicycle reference, David Lowe has been so kind as to post directions on the winery’s website for a nice little 60-mile jaunt around Zillah wine country. That’s right, a 60-miler! However, we suspect that the bicycle hanging out of your car’s trunk will be ridden another day. You’ve lingered too long at Wineglass Cellars.
