Vista Hills Vineyard & Winery
Dear John and Nancy McClintock and David and Cristy McDaniel,
I am writing to you, the owners of Vista Hills Vineyard & Winery, with a simple request. Please move out. I ask this favor so that I can live in the Treehouse, greet visitors, and tend the 42-acre vineyard.
I understand that this might be asking a lot, but please be assured that I will keep things in good shape. For example, I promise to maintain your beautifully built Northwest-style Treehouse: The exterior landscape and interior furnishings will not be neglected. Visitors will continue to marvel at the pond in front and gape when they enter as they look through the Treehouse windows toward the vineyards, the valley below, and the Coast Range in the distance. And you know that picnic table nestled in the fir and oak trees below? I promise to take good care of it and think of you often as I have a glass of Vista Hills pinot noir while marveling at the sunset.
I appreciate your commitment to giving back to the community. From what I understand about the Clint Foundation and its mission of providing student aid to working college students, I both applaud and promise to support it. That 10 percent of your profits that go to the Clint Foundation will continue under my stewardship.
Besides leaving me the keys to that gorgeous front door, I ask one more thing — that you leave the supply of pinot noir and pinot gris at the Treehouse. I’ll need it, for the visitors who will continue to sample Vista Hills wines, the bike riders who will use the Treehouse as their base camp for group rides, and the weddings and other events that will continue to bring great joy to others. Oh, and I’ll need some of it for myself. You see, everything about the taste and feel of your pinot noir reflects the terroir of this heaven-on-earth spot on top of the Dundee Hills. It’s a homerun in my book.
The guest winemaker program that you have so artfully engineered will continue, featuring familiar names such as Montalieu, Mortimer, Sanders, Silva, Seufert, and Stevenson. All are master artisans, and their skills and talents will leave their marks on future vintages.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
