Tildio Winery
It’s not unusual for friends and neighbors to stop by and spend the afternoon drinking wine, munching on cheese and assorted fruit, and yakking with Tildio Winery owners Milum and Katy Perry. The shaded patio offers an inviting place to relax and enjoy the view of nearby Roses Lake. Here, the sounds of laughter, uncorking wine bottles, and Katy asking what wine you wish to try next is the order of the day. The fact is, Milum and Katy pay as much loving attention to their guests as they do their vintages.
Both Milum and Katy cut their winemaking teeth in California before they ventured north in 2000 to stake a claim in the burgeoning Washington wine industry. They named their winery Tildio, which is the Spanish word for killdeer, a shorebird that breeds in large numbers in the Perrys’ 8-acre vineyard. Having the vineyard gives them control, from vine bud to bottling, and allows Katy to exercise her degree in enology and viticulture from University of California at Davis. Yes, the art of winemaking is crucial, but science spells the difference between acceptable and outstanding.
Pack a picnic for your visit to Tildio and budget time to visit with the Perrys. If weather permits, enjoy Tildio’s chardonnay, viognier, malbec (our favorite), cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and zinfandel out on the patio. But even with a foot of snow outside, pack a picnic anyway. You’re going to enjoy your visit with Milum and Katy and get to know their red and white offerings.
