Silvara Vineyards

Unedited

Two miles east of Leavenworth off Hwy 2, is a delightful oasis where you can find refuge from the crowds in Leavenworth (and some good wine). Nearby Smallwood’s Harvest is the source of giggling kids on kiddy-rides and adults on a mission to purchase fresh produce. This stands in stark contrast to the quietude of Silvara where you’ll either find plenty of space in the tasting room or out on the patio surrounded by mountains. These are true Kodak moments. If the weather is nippy, no problem: Inside are two large comfortable couches strategically placed in front of inviting fireplaces. Lovely.

Winemaker Gary Seidler and his partner Cindy Rarick source fruit from the Wahluke Slope viticulture area to produce cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay and riesling. The manageable portfolio of wine is a reflection of the winery’s youth but shows great promise.

Note that the name Silvara Vineyards implies that there are vineyards to experience. Alas, such is not the case as Gary and Cindy purchase their grape varieties from Columbia Valley growers. This is very typical in Washington and has its pros and cons. Still, this weathered WineTrail trekker did expect to see vineyards juxtaposed to the winery so the name is a tad misleading. However, a few sips of the cabernet had me let go of that bothersome tick.
