Plum Hill Vineyards

RJ and Juanita Lint found a second life in their hobby vineyard behind their home on Plum Hill Lane in Forest Grove. With the experience they gained from volunteering with Kramer Vineyards, the former California techies discovered they made a great glass of pinot. When a dilapidated dairy farm down the road in Gaston came on the market, they found the setting for their new lives as vintners.

The dairy sits atop a knob overlooking the Scoggins Valley. When I visited in mid-autumn, glowing deciduous trees sprawled in all directions, broken up by neighboring vineyards. Look to the north on a clear day for the snow-capped volcanoes of Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams. RJ and Juanita are keeping the old farm buildings intact, giving this winery classic agrarian character. The old barn now houses the wine barrels. When you’re looking around, try not to disturb “Hoot,” the resident barn owl.

Come inside the warm tasting room in the old ranch house. Parts of the beautifully woodworked bar come from the old Mothersheds restaurant in Forest Grove. However, it was RJ himself who invested a solid two months in building the foundation and framework for the “U”-shaped bar. Be sure to look over the beautiful works of local glass artist Dave Johnson that are on display. One of Juanita's passions is local gifts and crafts, making Plum Hill Vineyards an ideal place to get a souvenir from “Wine Country.”

Now, with glass of wine in hand, enjoy yourself next to the fire on the back patio or under the oak grove out front. Cheers!
