Paschal Winery
At the entrance to Paschal Winery, visitors get a glimpse of what’s in store. As you look toward the hilltop, the Italian-style tasting room, with its warm golden colors and red slate roof, may have you thinking of Tuscan blends and pinot grigio. Your drive up takes you past the Paschal vineyards to the generous parking area, where you’ll see an expansive lawn leading down to a pond. You’re in the heart of Bear Creek Valley, and the surrounding Siskiyou Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop.
Inside Paschal’s tasting room, the Mediterranean ambiance continues with a warm color scheme and a set of French doors leading out to a comfortably furnished deck. Cypress trees and sculptures down near the pond complete this picture of la vita dolce. Tucker might be around — he’s the easygoing black Lab that won the canine lottery when he became a member of this family.
Paschal Winery is the heart and soul of owners Roy and Jill Paschal. They began growing grapes on the property in the mid-’90s. However, when they tasted the fruit of their labors — literally — they realized that they needed to make their own wine from the fruit. Noted Oregon winemaker Joe Dobbes, Jr. has been doing so for Paschal Winery since 2002. He produces a variety of wines, which includes a healthy dose of Italian-style wines such as pinot gris and a red blend of sangiovese and dolcetto with the decidedly Italian name of Civita Di Bagnoregio.
In addition to sampling the wines mentioned above, it would be a crime for visitors not to take advantage of the warm-weather varietals produced by the Rogue Valley AVA. WineTrail trekkers can sip tempranillo, syrah, Bordeaux-style red blends and a delicious white blend named in honor of the winemaker’s daughter, Maya’s New White Wine.
It so happens that Paschal Winery is event central for the Rogue Valley. It hosts regular wine and music events the third Friday of each month, which have become popular with the locals. These events highlight regional musical acts and art shows throughout the year. For those in search of a place to wed or a site for that next corporate shindig, Paschal could fill the bill very nicely. With ample parking, excellent caterers, a huge lawn, tremendous views, rotating art exhibits, lots of wine, and a professional staff that give guests the royal treatment, Paschal Winery is perfect place for pairing wine with life’s celebrations.
