Ott & Murphy Wines
Unedited
The name Ott and Murphy derives from winemakers David Ott and Eric Murphy. Back in the 80s, they focused their fermentation skills on making beer. In time however, they tried their hand at making wine…successfully.
The scene of their winemaking passion is at David Ott’s Swede Hill Farm where fellow “cellar rat” Diane Kaufman lends a hand managing the garden and immersing herself in a laundry list of winemaking chores. In fact, based on our visit to their comfy tasting room smack dab in Langley, you will often find Diane working alongside David greeting visitors and pouring Bordeaux and Rhone style wines of layered complexity. There’s a good chance you won’t find mountain climber Eric Murphy at the tasting room His job with Seattle-based Alpine Ascents International takes him to far-flung mountain places to guide roped up heavy breathers.
Be sure to budget extra time to enjoy a glass of wine at a table overlooking the Puget Sound waters. Who knows, maybe an orca whale or a Trident class submarine might cruise by this shipping lane.
