Orchard Heights Winery

Aloha!

Visitors find a touch of Hawaii and a whole lot more at Orchard Heights. This winery succeeds because it offers a unique experience. Yes, it has pinot noir and other Willamette Valley wines. However, what other wineries offer chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, caramel popcorn, and passionfruit wine? What other winery offers Sunday brunch? What other tasting room has a gift shop with so much merchandise? Where else do you find terraced grounds and picnic areas that have the feel of a French chateau?

Orchard Heights Winery is a fusion of Hawaiian delights with Oregon wines and hospitality. Owner Gwen Purdy lives in Hawaii and is the sister of winemaker Carole Wyscaver. The connection with Hawaii explains the confections and macadamia-nut treats, as well as the “island tropical” wines, including passionfruit, tropical blend, mango, papaya, and pineapple. Forget the diet and try the Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch — it is simply delicious. For cork dorks in the crowd, there is plenty of traditional wine to be tasted, including muscat, gewürztraminer, pinot gris, pinot noir, and a red blend. The tropical wines are marketed under the label Island Princess.

Among the award-winning wines produced by Orchard Heights Winery are the ’04 gewurztraminer, winner of a gold medal at the Oregon Wine and Food Festival; the ’03 pinot gris, a bronze medal winner at the Oregon Wine and Food Festival; and the ’04 Riesling, a silver medal winner at the Astoria Wine Festival.

Orchard Heights’ scenic vineyard provides a wonderful setting for corporate events, weddings, and private parties. With plenty of wine to go around, there is no need to worry about such things. Your luaus are a guaranteed hit — Oregon style.
