Olympic Cellars
Located in a huge old barn on Highway 101, 9 miles west of Sequim, Olympic Cellars is dedicated to “Wines for Women Who Want It All.” The owners of Olympic Cellars—Kathy Charlton, Molly Rivard, and Libby Sweetser—comprise the “Olympic Women in Wine.” Kathy states, “I knew that to survive as a very small player in the wine industry, we needed to focus on a niche market. We couldn’t compete on price, there was no way economies of scale would kick in, and like any industry, major acquisitions were taking place, making it even harder to compete. So we played to our strengths, we are women, we know what we like, so we created the Working Girl wines and self-proclaimed them the Official Wine of Working Women.”
Although it’s not a wise strategy to buy wine based on the label alone, it is hard to resist a “Rosé the Riveter” bottle of wine from Olympic Cellars. Beyond the label, however, is the fact that “Rosé the Riveter” is a refreshing, well-balanced wine that goes well with sliced turkey and havarti.
Olympic’s award-winning Working Girl series (“Working Girl” white, “Go Girl” red, and “Rosé the Riveter”) is designed to be distinct, yet affordable for sharing with co-workers after a long day in pantyhose and pumps. Depending upon availability, check out its premium La Dolce Vida line of wine, which includes five varietals that are produced in small quantities (150 to 200 cases each). La Dolce Vida wines, as the name implies, are intended to be shared during those special occasions when we take time to reflect of the fruits of our labors and share the good life. A third line of Olympic wines is the Dungeness series, which includes the heritage and artist series of labels, which were first made in 1980. The Dungeness white is a semi-sweet riesling, and the Dungeness red is a Beaujolais-style lemberger.
The generous gift shop features a world of wine-related items guaranteed to satisfy that hard-to-buy-for aunt.
Olympic Cellars is a key member of North Sound Wineries Association and participates in its events, including Spring Barrel Tasting (Memorial Day Weekend); Passport Wine Tour (Veterans Day Weekend); and Red Wine & Chocolate (February). In addition, Olympic Cellars produces its own special events throughout the year; and be sure to check out its outstanding website in advance for upcoming events and other tidbits. You go, girl!
