Oakwood Cellars Winery

Many a communications specialist says, “Tell it by the numbers.” When it comes to Oakwood Cellars, we agree, and in order to appreciate Oakwood Cellars you need to understand five key things. Not in order of importance, we submit the following:

1. Location – Not only is Oakwood Cellars located smack dab in the middle of Red Mountain, right down the road from Terra Blanca, but it resides next to the picturesque Yakima River. In a word, it’s “lovely,” and if you packed a picnic for your wine-tasting getaway, this is the place to enjoy it.
2. Lemberger– Not just lemberger wine as you know it (assuming you share our lemberger passion) but also an unusual lemberger white wine. A lemberger white? Yep, and to our reckoning, you won’t find this anywhere else.
3. History – Proprietor and vintner Evelyn “Eppie” Skelton has been making award-winning wines since 1986. That’s ancient history by Washington state standards and it’s also very unusual that a woman winemaker has thrived in this male-dominated business.
4. Patience – From crush to bottle, Eppie believes that longer is better. Her cabernet sauvignon is aged in the barrel for 36 months. From a small-business perspective with inherent cashflow concerns, that’s a long time.
5. Homey – The tasting room and gift shop are small in size but large on charm; you feel at home in this space.

WineTrail enthusiasts will want to budget plenty of time for Oakwood Cellars. We’ve given you five good reasons why you should, and we’re sure you will add to the numbers.
