Novelty Hill
I would like to ask everyone to clear out of the new Novelty Hill and Januik Winery. The reason? I’d like to live there. I relish the thought of living in a contemporary fusion of glass, wood, and stylish concrete. This would be the perfect space to kick back, relax, and wonder how the other half lives. Oh, and one other thing. I’d need the key to the wine cellar. A glass of Novelty Hill merlot every day for a year would suit me just fine.
Opened in the spring of 2007, the new winery occupies more than 33,000 square feet on 3.1 acres in Woodinville. The fact that the parking lot can accommodate 100 vehicles speaks volumes for anticipated sippers eager to sample Novelty Hill and Januik wines. However, you might think that visitors would overlook the winery, given that their neighbors to the south are Columbia Winery and Chateau Ste. Michelle. But I think not. The public already is familiar with the elegance of these wines. And the fact that the facility is earth-friendly by design simply adds to the allure of Novelty Hill and Januik Winery.
Within this modern structure, WineTrail enthusiasts experience two different wineries: Novelty Hill and Januik Winery. Although they are two different wineries, they share one big common denominator: Mike Januik, winemaker extraordinaire. Novelty Hill owners Tom Alberg and Judi Beck turned to Mike Januik for his award-winning expertise. With 25 years of winemaking experience, including 10 years as the chief winemaker for Chateau Ste. Michelle, Mike knows what to do with the grapes. In addition, he enjoys a solid relationship with many of the state’s finest premium grape growers.
When not making wine for Novelty Hill, Mike focuses on creating his own wine under the Januik Winery label. Bearing names such as Lewis Vineyard syrah, Champoux Vineyard cabernet sauvignon, and Cold Creek chardonnay, Januik wines are created from the finest ingredients.
Premium grapes, high-quality ingredients, and a sleek, modern facility harmonize to create excellent winemaking feng shui for Novelty Hill and Januik Winery.
