North Shore Wine Cellars

How’s this for a slogan: “For the Bad Seed in all of us.” We love it. Indeed, an angry red-faced apple emblazons Bad Seed Cider’s beer-size bottles. Along with the mad apple, Bad Seed Cider also ferments the mighty pear. Both varieties weighing in at 5.8 percent alcohol, Bad Seed Cider comes in a convenient six-pack and is a perfect antidote for a hot summer day kayaking, whitewater rafting, golfing, or hiking in the Gorge.

As you might suspect, Bad Seed Cider is all about fun, and its Bingen tasting room reflects a carefree attitude. No swirling needed here—it’s more about quaffing than sipping. Every second Saturday night (May through September) is free movie night at Bad Cider. And, as you might expect, frequent bands are guests of the cider house.

Despite the relaxed environment, the staff is serious about their hard ciders and proud of the fact that they use locally grown fruit. The quip found on the Bad Seed label, “How do you like them apples?” says it all. It’s easy to close your eyes and imagine a ham-and-cheese crepe to go with Bad Seed Cider.

Incidentally, the Bad Seed Cider tasting room also features wines from Wind River Cellars. For a $3 tasting fee, you can enjoy Joel Goodwillie’s award-winning wines. However, if you’re wanting wine and time permits, make the short car drive to the Wind River Cellars in Husum and enjoy stunning views and the full lineup of Wind River Cellars wines.
