Klickitat Canyon Winery

Vegan central is alive and well at Klickitat Canyon Winery where vintner Robin Dobson uses no sulfites or other additives. It's decidedly unfined and unfiltered. It’s organic to the core and a winery where a loyal following of fans come for the wine eschewing the big fancy wineries like Maryhill Winery another 25 miles east on Hwy 14.

This is a place where cyclists and folks with eco friendly cars stop to experience. It’s a rather disheveled place with wine making equipment and remnants of last year’s vintage scattered about. The wine itself reflects the property with off tastes that would have my favorite wine instructor at South Seattle Community College’s enology program raise an eyebrow and say, “funky.”

Now before you conclude that I’m lambasting Klickitat Canyon Winery I want to say that the same group of teachers and professional tasters that I have come to know would also likely say that they don’t necessarily disdain funky. In fact, being different is a good thing relative to the same old same old you get when you are on a steady diet of Yellow Tail or Kendall Jackson. The wines of Klickitat – a white blend named Meadowlark Gold, chardonnay, pinot noir, syrah and a Ruby Red table wine – are decidedly different. Not for the pleasure of everyone but a hit with some. You be the judge.

Unedited.
