Isabella Grace Winery

They anticipated that the grandchild would be a girl and that her name would be Isabella Grace. However, the baby turned out to be a boy – Henry Godfried Mills – and so what do you do with a terrific name? Well, in the case of winemaker and owner Tom Hornberg, you apply the “grand-daughter’s” name to another newborn – his winery. We’re grateful he didn’t name the winery, “Henry’s.” Located southeast of Seattle in the foothills of the Cascades, Isabella Grace Winery is a true artisan winery that produces less than 500 cases per year. Using grapes from the Columbia Valley, Tom Hornberg ages his wines for 2 years in oak followed by another year in the bottle. He warns buyers that, “sediment may appear” in the bottom of the wine bottle as a testament to his unfiltered winemaking practice. His cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah wines sell for around $20 a bottle.

When Tom isn’t making wine, he makes doors for Old World Door. However, these aren’t your ordinary doors. These are high-end custom-made doors built by artisans of extraordinary talent (see www.oldworlddoor.com for breathtaking tour of fine doors). Examples of his custom doors are gracefully (pun intended) placed throughout his tasting room.

Isabella Grace is open only during the summer on Sunday afternoons. WineTrail enthusiasts are cautioned to call ahead to confirm hours and wine availability.
