Gilbert Cellars

Unedited

Just when you thought downtown Yakima was dullsville. Think again. The lively wine bar aka tasting room of Gilbert Cellars Winery on Front Street offers live music and fine art for those adventurous people that wish to quench their souls. If you are a one-time visitor just passing through you can experience the wines of Gilbert Cellars and come to understand the taste of varieties from the Wahluke Slope AVA and other Columbia Valley vineyards.

However, for those that wish to dive in further, Gilbert Cellars Winery is more about a lifestyle that celebrates good wine with friends and family, different types of music from classical symphony inspired to contemporary jazz as well as fine art that you hang on the wall and wish you could do.

It’s a family affair involving several Gilbert generations with each person getting involved from growing grapes, to bottling and marketing. As an example, Meg Gilbert’s bio includes lots of travel and exposure to fine art. Armed with this background, Meg developed The Cave located just outside Yakima at 2620 Draper Road and a venue for wine club parties and other musical events. Curtiss Gilbert is one of many Gilbert men involved in the grape growing side of the business racking up mile traveling among the various vineyards he manages including Doc Stewart Vineyard and 24K Vineyard in the Wahluke Slope AVA and Chuckar Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. Extended family member Justin Neufeld is the head winemaker for Gilbert Cellars. A graduate of the University of Washington with a Molecular Biology degree, Justin’s task is to showcase the fruit from the portfolio of Gilbert Cellars vineyards. He relishes this task as you can discover yourself with a hearty swirl and sip of his oh-so-velvety Doc Stewart syrah.
