Domaine Coteau
True confession time: I never made it inside the Domaine Coteau tasting room. I tried. In fact, I went back twice, but in each instance, it was closed.
That’s the problem when you get stellar reviews by none other than the Wine Enthusiast (90 points), a gold medal from the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits, the critics gold award at the Critics Challenge International Wine Competition, and a silver medal at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition. As stated on its web site, the goal of Domaine Coteau is “To gain and maintain recognition as one of Oregon’s best pinot noir producers.” I suppose you can say that it nailed that one.
When you get awards and accolades like these, you have a good problem — your wine sells like hotcakes. At least that was what a couple of the locals in Carlton reported. That might explain why the winery’s doors were closed the day that I sampled my way through Carlton.
Fellow WineTrail enthusiasts, I ask for your help. Please share your pictures and experience if you are fortunate enough to visit Domaine Coteau. I promise to post it at www.winetrailsnw.com/wineries/domaine_coteau.
