Chelan Estate Winery and Vineyard
The popular belief is that it is simply too hot to grow pinot noir in Eastern Washington, particularly in the area around Lake Chelan. However, because of an interesting meteorological phenomenon known as a microclimate, Bob and Mary Broderick owners of Chelan Estate Vineyards & Winery have discovered fertile ground for pinot noir on the south shore of Lake Chelan. The lake provides cooler summers and warmer winters. Thus, of the 8 acres of grapes the Brodericks cultivate, the majority is devoted to pinot noir.
Winemaker Bob Broderick must be doing something right. The estate grown pinot noir is deceptively elegant and stylish—a rich reward for these growers/winemakers, considering this grape demands more time and attention than most.
From the deck of Chelan Estate Vineyards & Winery, you enjoy a stunning view of Lake Chelan. Pack a picnic, because you’ll want to make a leisurely day of it. Your most difficult decision may be whether to uncork the chardonnay-viognier blend, a cabernet from Stillwater Creek vineyard, or the estate pinot noir. Decisions…decisions. For me, I struck a balance going with their Merlot. Cheers.
