Canyon's Edge Winery
Question: Maryhill Winery, Bookwalter, Barnard Griffin, Columbia Winery, Canoe Ridge, Gordon Brothers, and Apex Cellars are distinct wineries but they have one big thing in common. Can you guess it?
Answer: They have all sourced their grapes from Aldercreek Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills and these are just a few of more than 40 wineries in total that rely on this exceptional vineyard.
At nearly 300 acres, the Aldercreek Vineyard enjoys the moderating influence of the Columbia River, arid climate, and lots of wind. The result is amazingly intense fruit sought after by many of the state’s top wineries.
Now Canyon’s Edge Winery has become the estate winery for Aldercreek and wine enthusiasts can experience their wines at their tasting room on Merlot Drive in Prosser opened in June of 2007. Managing owners, Dave and Brian Groth (father and son respectively) turned to experienced winemaker John P. Haw for converting their fruit into premium wine that showcases the Horse Heaven Hill’s terroir.
Despite its winemaking youth, the portfolio of Canyon’s Edge estate wines is ambitious. Featured at the tasting room are their Sage Brush Red table wine, merlot, syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and Jeremiah’s Chocolate Port. With the tagline, “Where Quality, the Palate and Value Meet,” the tasting room is a charming stop along the Prosser WineTrail South.
