Barrage Cellars
Unedited
Get this, Seattle Magazine voted Kevin Correll’s 2007 Cabernet Franc the best in the state for 2011. Not bad for a guy that started in his garage, worked crushes in eastern Washington and found time to take a UC Davis class here and there. But with that accolade, this Warehouse District winery is suddenly on the map and deserves your palate’s attention. Besides that, you get to pet the winery dog Murphy. He's the chocolate lab equipped with a wonderful disposition.
Barrage has many synonyms including bombard, pepper and shower to name a few. And perhaps that is the experience you get when you taste their 2007 Cabernet Franc “Outcast” but unfortunately we’ll never know. You see, by the time this WineTrail trekker got there, the wine was “sold out.” Alas, I was forced (quite willingly I might add) to sample Kevin’s riesling, syrah and cabernet sauvignon all of which were eminently quaffable and ready to take home that evening.
The story goes that Kevin needed a name for his winery and came up with the moniker from a fusion of “barn” and “garage” the locations where started making wine. Melding the words “barn” and “garage” gives you Barrage and hence you have a name. This of course raises the question that if he made wine from a two-car garage would he named his winery “Two Car Barrage.” You must admit, it has a certain ring to it.
