Baroness Cellars

Unedited

At Leavenworth’s 10,000 square foot 939 Front Street building, visitors get a 3-in-1 treat with Bergdorf Cellars, Baroness Cellars and Mannina Cellars all under one roof. This two-story shopper’s paradise is packed full of home décor items and artsy treasures. However, for the wine traveler, budget plenty of time for tasting in between looking for that special pillow to adorn your new couch.

If it is cold outside, Bergdorf Cellars offers people spicy Gluhwein to warm their cockles. And, you know we all need our cockles warmed now and then. But if Gluhwein isn’t to your liking, Austrian winemaker John Delvo’s other wines will likely hit the mark. Whether it’s his use of grapes from twenty different vineyards or the 36-months that he ages his wine in French oak, his wines are sure to please. There’s a reason that among Leavenworth winemakers, John enjoys high regard. But don’t take my word for it. Try Bergdorf Cellars’ Ski Jump Red comprised of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and tempranillo. Besides having a great name, this wine dances on the palate. It’s delicious! (By the way, the German word for mountain is “berg” and village is “borg.”)

Upstairs are the tasting rooms for Baroness Cellars and Mannina Cellars. Danielle Clements bottles 1,200 cases per year including her signature wine – Mountain Meritage. This blend of (non-vintage) cabernet franc and merlot expresses a gorgeous red color, earthy smell and good mid-palate weight. At $6 a glass, pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable while enjoying this wine. If warm outside, be sure and step outside to the balcony and show people your new lederhosen.

Also upstairs, the satellite tasting room of Walla Walla-based Mannina Cellars beckons wine drinkers to taste Walla Walla terroir. Using fruit from the Walla Walla Valley, winemaker Don Redman creates full-bodied reds. Perhaps his best-known wine is his irresistible Cali red blend which sales for a penny pinching $17 a bottle. This blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot is a delicious bargain for anyone’s cellar.

Three-in-one grand tasting venue; shoppers delight; friendly people and even pet friendly...what’s not to love?
