Mas de la Lionne - Paradise Found

September 5, 2010

Heaven. Yesterday we visited the winery/home of Seattle transplant Doug Graves. Imagine the guts he had immigrating here with his high school French language skills and managing a 10 acre estate vineyard. Moving here in 2008 Doug has managed to thrive gaining vigneron friends and negotiating around with solid French speaking skills. Imagine having the assistance of some of the best viticulture and enology experts in the world. Sweet!

His property is literally a stones throw from the border of Chateauneuf de Paper and the town itself is just a few kilometers away. It's there where we retreated to an outdoor cafe for lunch and a bottle of rose (served in a plastic bag of iced and water). Afterward, Doug took us to a fabulous tasting room where we sampled some amazing grenache based blends and listened to Doug and the tasting room woman in animated discussion. Needless to say, this day will be forever seared in my mind. Stay tuned for a video of the visit when we get back!
