Camaraderie Cellars Bound!

June 2, 2010

Kathleen and I hit the road this weekend to venture out to Port Angeles to sign books at Camaraderie Cellars. Yes indeed from noon to around 4 p.m. this Saturday (June 5th) we'll be at the place "where it all began." That is, it all began for me with my very first visit to a tasting room to write the WineTrails of Washington book. That was in January 2006 when I made that visit and got to know Don and Vicki Corson of Camaraderie Cellars.

I was juggling notebook and camera that day, while Don poured straight from the barrel and there began my love affair with Washington wine -- particularly the big reds of the Columbia Valley where Don sources his grapes. But more than palate pleasing, it was Don's philosophy of pairing wine with "the good things in life" -- friends, family, food, music, etc. that made an indelible impression.

Wine is very much a part of our Pacific Northwest culture. It's now part of our heritage and woven into our culinary scene, into how and where we take vacation, and into our very economy. Jobs and booze go together like peas and carrots.

So, I am excited to return to Port Angeles and see Don and Vicki and visit with folks that stop by the winery. Besides that, the Corson's are lovers of classical music and I am sure I will need something red and luscious to drink with Bach in the background.

I hope to see you there!
