Back from Savor Idaho

June 16, 2010

Folks, you need to throw away the notion that Idaho isn't a wine destination. It is but you need to search for it by car and have time on your side. The Sunnyslope area southwest of Boise is ample indeed and it's a long drive north to Lewiston. However, the prize is worth it because you are sure to find some hidden wines.

Last weekend however I had the great pleasure attending the second annual Savor Idaho event at Boise old Penitentiary botanical garden. Amazing location; great food and most of Idaho's wineries assembled in one location. Imagine a much smaller version of Taste Washington minus the crowds but rather being under roof it's all outdoors under blue skies Idaho style. It was lovely and good time had by all.

So you might have missed Savor Idaho this year but think in terms of 2011. June is a great time to visit Idaho and experience the Gems state's many treasures. A word of advice is in order here: buy tickets well in advance. This year's event was sold out! Cheers.
