In the Olympic Peninsula Region, you will explore wineries that focus on Bordeaux-style blends, wineries that do wonders with plumbs and rhubarb, and wineries that specialize in "cool climate grapes" with interesting names like Madeleine Angevine or Siegerrebe. You will discover that Port Angeles offers the perfect climate to ferment hot weather Eastern Washington grapes, and you can volunteer to harvest grapes on Whidbey Island. It is a region that will get you familiar with the Washington State Ferry schedule, give you insight into what wines go great with Northwest seafood, and show you the perfect beach for uncorking a Cabernet Franc.

If we go clockwise, Route 101 going north takes you along the Shelton-Hoodsport-Bainbridge Island WineTrail. The spectacular scenery provides a perfect backdrop to sample wine. Next up is the Olympic Peninsula WineTrail from Sequim and Port Angeles. There are plenty of places to stay and dine along the route and the added benefit of quick access to the Olympic National Park via Hurricane Ridge. The Whidbey Island-Port Townsend WineTrail is the third area for tasting great wines and no trip there is complete without a lunch break in Port Townsend. For the urban dwellers amongst us, the WineTrails of the Olympic Peninsula are a welcome respite only a short ferry hop away.
